NRA
The National Rifle Association was founded in 1860. Shooters and non-shooters throughout the World have heard of Bisley Camp, which is owned by the NRA, and the impressive Bisley Ranges. It is here that the Worlds most famous target rifle competition, Her Majesty the Queens Prize, has been held in July each year since 1890. The Queen is the Patron of the NRA, continuing the royal tradition, and Prince Charles is our President. In 1994 HM the Queens Prize was opened to all comers for the first time.
There is no doubt that the future of the NRA (and all other Clubs and Associations) depends on encouraging young people to take up the sport. The most fruitful source of interested potential members is in the cadet forces, and two competitions are held annually in July, the Inter-Service Cadet Rifle Meeting for the open units and the Schools Meeting for CCFs.
The NRA is responsible for selecting and supporting representative Great Britain teams in various shooting disciplines to many parts of the World including the previous Commonwealth countries. The number of countries is continually being widened, and now includes the Continent of Europe and also the USA.
The permanent staff at the NRAs Bisley Headquarters can offer advice on legal and firearms certificate problems, range construction and regulations, the formation of new clubs and entry to competitions. The NRA Museum and Archives housed in the NRA Headquarters provide a rich source of information on the development of target firearms throughout the ages, for the benefit of students and collectors.
